Some numerical questions were asked in EPFO PYQs regarding labour laws.

They are of moderate level — not straightforward factual, but also not deeply technical.
They are designed to test application of provisions, not just memory.

These numerical questions demands accurate understanding of labor laws because of you look closely you will find that options are very close to each other.

UPSC typically frames labour law questions in EPFO in this “applied + trap-based” style. They avoid asking direct section numbers, instead they test real-world scenario application of the law. The focus is on calculation + conceptual clarity + remembering key exceptions.

Numericals usually come from:

  • Economics → GDP, GNP, NNP, National Income, Inflation, Effective Revenue Deficit, Balance of Payments, Ratios (WPR, dependency ratio).

  • Labour Laws → Bonus calculation, Gratuity, PF contributions, Compensation under Workmen Compensation Act, Leave rules.

  • Maths/Reasoning → Percentages, Averages, Ratio-Proportion, Profit-Loss, SI/CI, Time-Work, Probability (basic).

  • Accounts/Finance Basics → Depreciation, Costing, Financial ratios.

PYQs show that they are not very advanced — but formula-based + concept clarity is required.

Keep a separate register/flashcards of all formulas, like:

  • Gratuity = (15 × last drawn wages × years of service) / 26

  • Bonus = Salary × Rate% (subject to wage ceiling & limits)

  • PF Contribution = 12% of Basic + DA

  • GDP at MP = GDP at FC + Net indirect taxes

Don’t worry. For this, we will conduct a separate class for all the numerical questions that can be asked in exam from all labour laws.

We are ensuring 100% accuracy and coverage through our modules so that this year you can exit this exam cycle and get a decent commissioner level job.

We are working day and night for you. Each and every second.
